The dust has settled on our 15th election, and the Congress government is poised to take the reins at the Centre. But amidst the political whirlwind, a peculiar story caught my eye—a Guru’s Mutt in Arsikere Taluk (Karnataka, India) claims to have foreseen our nation’s fate. Every prophecy, they say, is destined to come true. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Like palm readers or soothsayers weaving tales of tomorrow, these predictions captivate far too many. Why do we fall for it? Why don’t we pause and think?

If the world unfolded as every guru or yogi proclaimed, wouldn’t our struggles—poverty, unrest, division—have vanished by now? No sage, no matter how revered, can unravel the complexities of our political landscape. No one can script what life will look like a century from now. Will it be Congress, BJP, Janata Dal, or a party yet to be born? How can anyone claim to know? And what of our leaders, some so skilled at slinging mud they forget how to build? Can they truly shape a future worth believing in?

Let’s call it what it is, coincidence. Nothing more. Yet, our politicians play a cunning game. They enlist monastery heads to sway entire communities, tying votes to caste or class loyalties. Since when did monks become political puppeteers? People tremble before these figures, mistaking fear for faith, while devotion to something greater—like truth or reason—fades away. The Mathadhishars turn a blind eye to the sins of the powerful, ignoring the struggles of ordinary families. Basavanna once said Kailash is the highest peak, but do his words of wisdom reach the common heart? Only Shiva knows.

From distant Delhi, politicians bow to saints, urging them to whisper predictions and rally votes through their followers. It’s a clever ruse, but it thrives only because we let it. The path to prosperity begins when we wake up—when we trade blind belief for sharp intellect. As long as there are fortune-tellers, there will be those eager to hang on their every word. But their power fades the moment we stop listening.

Here’s the unshakable truth - our future is in our own hands. No one else holds the pen to our story. To believe otherwise is to surrender our power to a lie. Let’s write our own destiny—one bold, thoughtful choice at a time.
